Yup, it’s time to break through the glass. As you’ve probably noticed marketing doesn’t work the way it did a few years ago. The glass you’ve been looking through is no longer as clear as it used to be. It’s shattered and it’s hard to see where you are going. You’ve had to start over and need to create a new way of being in marketing these days which may be a bit confusing and frustrating.
How about I make it less confusing and frustrating for you? I’ll boil it down for you. A huge part of what’s been missing in marketing over the last 10 years or so is the human being. We’ve been learning exactly what words to say, what tactics work best and how to use strategies effectively. Break the glass through and throw all of that out the window! Really! Go get your notebooks, guides, blueprints and manuals. Throw all of them out. They are no longer serving you.
If you’ve spent years digesting pages of information on marketing, you could probably write your own marketing book by now. Don’t tell me you haven’t thought about it. Seriously! It’s all in your brain. You know a lot and it’s time to trust that it’s all there.
What you may not know is how to inject YOU into the equation. That’s the big challenge everyone seems to be having these days. You know how to do marketing, but do you know how to inject who you are into it?
There are two great ways to do this.
1) Create your own way of marketing your business. There are a million different marketing strategies you can use and each one has many different options of how to use them. Have you ever stopped and asked yourself, which strategy and option will work best for me? Or are you just doing what you’ve been told? Stop being an automaton! Deep down in your brain, behind what you know about marketing there is a little voice that is saying “try this instead”. It probably sounds like a crazy, foolish idea. No one else does it that way, so why should you? Because no one else does it that way! That’s exactly the reason to try it, test it and hone it to work the way you want it to work. I bet your first go ’round with it will get greater results than the way you’ve been doing it. Try it!
2) Talk about your business from your passion, heart, and experience. Drop the phoney marketing language that your marketing friends/gurus told you to use. That 30 second speech you memorized isn’t doing you any good. I bet you have a very unique perspective on the work you do that you’ve been afraid to share. Start talking about that perspective and sharing who your dream clients are. I bet they start showing up in just a few months. Use your passion and love for the work you do to make that marketing message shine so bright, it’s irresistable. When was the last time you were at a networking meeting and the passion coming from a business owner made you want to rally around them? It doesn’t happen often (if at all), right? Exactly! Be that person. Rally up your supporters.
