Some of us follow the thread of an inspired idea, others are unexpectedly awakened by a catalytic event. Whether compelled or catapulted, those of us seeking to embark on an authentic life path quickly discover the inherent twists and turns of this magical and mysterious journey.
Traveling your true path is a uniquely personal one. It’s usually hard to find others on a similar trajectory who understand the thrills and challenges along the way – or those who can offer you sage advice. Yet there’s hope. The late poet and scholar John O’Donohue shed light on this,
“Each one of us has something to do here than can be done by no one else. If someone else could fulfill your destiny, then they would be in your place, and you would not be here. It is in the depths of your life that you will discover the invisible necessity that has brought you here. When you begin to decipher this, your gift and giftedness come alive. Your heart quickens and the urgency of living rekindles your creativity” (from Anam Cara: A Book of Celtic Wisdom)
Choosing to walk your true path takes courage, patience and persistence. It feels like traversing a landscape where signposts are rare, past proven strategies no longer work, and reliable resources appear lacking. Old fears intensify or new ones bubble up to be recognized and transformed. To add to the challenge, our culture is wary of ‘dreamers’, ‘creatives’ and those who want to find answers on their own terms in lieu of consulting ‘experts’.
Traveling your true path is an exhilarating and expansive adventure that calls you into the realm of the unknown. It helps return you to a childlike wonder and openness to opportunities, to exploration and experimentation, and to walk in the land of limitless possibilities.
However, this trek rarely provides quick fixes. It’s not all bliss and rapture. It requires you to exercise your capacities and potential and hone your skills. It may ask you to stand your ground, look conspicuously different, be misunderstood, take risks and chance ‘failure’. It’s a spirited ride that brings you face to face with your doubts and blind spots.
Never before has there been a greater need for each one of us to step onto our true path and make a meaningful contribution in our challenging times. You’re amongst a growing tribe of seekers and change makers. As our outmoded institutions crumble and personal barriers to choice and freedom are being removed ~ opportunity for connection, collaboration and enrichment are increasing exponentially.
The good news is that current studies suggest that the most important tool you have to navigate the accelerated change we know face, is your creative capacities. Paying attention to what lights you up through cultivating your creative abilities, leads you to both personal and professional fulfillment.
Hint: you’ll likely never feel ‘ready’ to follow your true path and act on your dreams. You may think you need more time, further research, training or preparation, but your true path meets you where you are right now. It whispers to you day by day, minute by minute through the seemingly insignificant choices you make toward or away from your dreams.
That’s why it’s important to know you’re not alone! I’m talking about the repercussions of not following your path, what to expect when embarking on your true path, why your creativity is so important and much more on this episode of Power Up Living with Kelly Galea.
