Kaleidoscope Movie Magic – April 2018
Kaleidoscope group member Lisa Elin of ReelHappiness.com shares her Reel Happiness Cinema Therapy through a write-up called “Kaleidoscope Group Movie Magic.”
This month’s selection is Words and Pictures.
When a prep school English teacher finds his job in jeopardy, he generates some buzz by marshaling his fiery rivalry with a new Art teacher into a full-on competition as to which form of expression holds more value.
Dir. Fred Schepisi. Perf. Clive Owen, Juliette Binoche, Bruce Davison, Navid Negahban, Amy Brenneman, Valerie Tian. Roadside Attractions, 2013.
As You Watch
Click here to review our April forecast, then consider the following as you watch this month’s selection.
- Notice how Jack’s disharmony comes from within (alcohol, self-inflicted wounds), and Dina’s comes from without (severe debili- tating illness); also ponder where and how they could direct Life or merely respond to it, yet always conduct their own symphony.
- Observe how their rigidity (Jack’s roguery, Dina’s opinions) starts to overtake their lives, and how this causes disharmony.
- Watch how each makes major shifts to their life in order to re-align and restore their ability to move forward with integrity (Jack’s major confession) and acceptance (Dina’s bond with the students and willingness to try as much as her body will let her).

As we watch with conscious awareness, we help our unconscious become open to new ideas and ways of doing things—leading to enhanced well-being and faster progress toward our goals! It’s the bridge between knowing the path, and walking the path.
